Just after 8:00 in the morning on October 14, Manzanita got hit by the rarest of the rare — a tornado. It tore into town just a few blocks south of Laneda and went up to the highway at a slight angle from the main street. Fortunately, no one was injured or killed. By city official’s reckoning, 128 structures were damaged (some destroyed) and the city lost two to three hundred trees. We are used to some pretty wild weather here on the coast but this was a new one for us!
